Coinbase wants to let you trade Apple or Tesla stock at three in the morning on a Sunday. On September first, it filed two applications with US regulators for something called stock perpetuals. No expiration date. A funding payment keeps the price in line, the same trick crypto exchanges already run on Bitcoin. But the SEC filing is just step one. The CFTC still has to approve it, and there's no launch date, no leverage limits, nothing else decided. The market reacted anyway.

Coinbase's own stock jumped ten percent in two days, closing at one hundred ninety two dollars and seventy cents. Robinhood and Ondo Finance are already circling the same idea. If this clears, the wall between crypto hours and stock market hours gets a lot thinner.
