Halloween: The Game is out today on PS5, Xbox, and PC. One player controls Michael Myers. Four others play survivors trying to escape or stay alive. It's Illfonic's third swing at this genre, after Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, and critics are calling it the studio's best asymmetrical horror title yet. Reviewers love playing as Myers, and they say the balance between killer and survivors finally feels fair.
But it launches clumsy and buggy, and the single-player mode is getting called a glorified tutorial rather than a real campaign. Digital Deluxe owners already had a few days of early access. The bigger question is whether Illfonic can keep supporting this one, since a licensing dispute cut Friday the 13th's updates short years ago. If you want Michael Myers today, bugs and all, this delivers.
