Valheim just grew up. After five years and seven months in early access, Iron Gate shipped version 1.0 on September 9th. The big addition is Deep North, the eighth and final biome, a frozen region with its own enemies and gear. But the bigger deal for a lot of players is this: Valheim is finally on consoles. PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, both day one, both with full crossplay against PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox. Switch 2 even gets touch menus and gyro aiming.

New copies now cost twenty nine ninety nine, up from the early access price. But if you're one of the roughly seventeen million people who already own it, Deep North and 1.0 are free. Five years is a long early access run. Iron Gate's bet was that finishing it properly, eight biomes, two new consoles, was worth the wait.
