Instacart just launched Clementine, an AI assistant that turns a sentence or a photo into a finished grocery cart. Ask for budget friendly kids' lunches, or snap a picture of a handwritten list, and it fills your cart automatically, adjusting for diets and swapping in deals along the way. Here's the catch. Instacart is actually the last of the big three delivery apps to ship this. Uber Eats launched its Cart Assistant back in February. DoorDash followed in June with Ask DoorDash.

Now, seven months later, Instacart finally has its own version. All three do roughly the same trick. What separates them isn't the chat window, it's the data behind it, and Instacart has fourteen years of grocery purchases the other two don't.
