Mistral just raised three billion euros, and it's the biggest funding round any European tech company has ever closed. Samsung led it, alongside a European growth fund and existing backers like Nvidia and ASML. That values the Paris AI startup at more than twenty one billion euros, nearly double what it was worth a year ago. The pitch is sovereign AI: models, infrastructure and compute a customer fully controls, without handing the keys to some foreign hyperscaler.
The money funds Mistral's own data centers, two hundred megawatts of compute across Europe by twenty twenty seven. Anthropic and OpenAI are still worth roughly forty times more, but this is the clearest signal yet that a distinct, non-US AI champion is worth real money to European industry.
