A dozen FOIA memos just revealed how nervous police are getting about Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. It started with a TikTok video shot inside a South Carolina detention center, showing cells and detainees nobody meant to broadcast. Since then, the NYPD's counterterrorism bureau has ordered eyewear inspections in inmate cells, calling the glasses a security and counterintelligence threat.

A Maine fusion center went further, warning the glasses' AI could be used to dox officers by name and address. And in August, ICE banned them outright, classifying them as body worn cameras. The irony is hard to miss. Police forces spent years pointing cameras at everyone else. Now a fifty dollar pair of glasses is pointing back, and nobody's sure the blinking light is warning enough.
